The skin’s structure and parts
The skin is made up of three components: the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. The epidermis consists of four layers and is regenerated in about a 28-day cycle. This is called turnover.
The outermost layer of the epidermis called the stratum corneum, consisting of the NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor) and a sebaceous film, covers the epidermis and prevents moisture from evaporating. The dermis is the main component of the skin and consists of collagen and elastin, which
maintains the firmness and elasticity of skin, as well as hyaluronic acid and water.
Collagen is the main material of collagen fiber that maintains the firmness of skin. Elastin is the main material of elastic fiber that keeps the skin elastic. Hyaluronic acid is a jelly-like substance that fills gaps between collagen and elastin.
